Meaning

Greater State Autonomy was the demand to give back to Jammu and Kashmir the autonomy that Article 370 originally granted. Many Kashmiris felt that this autonomy had been eroded in practice over time. The National Conference government raised the demand after elections returned in 1996.

Example

In 2000 the J&K assembly passed an autonomy resolution to restore Article 370's original autonomy. The Union Cabinet rejected it. In 2019 Article 370's special status itself was ended.
