Meaning

The Plebiscite Front was set up in 1955 by Sheikh Abdullah's followers. It demanded a plebiscite (a vote of the people) to decide Jammu and Kashmir's future, as UNSC Resolution 47 had planned. It was formed while Abdullah was in jail, after his dismissal in 1953.

Example

After the Indira-Sheikh Accord (1974-75), Abdullah accepted J&K as part of India and the Plebiscite Front was wound up. The revived National Conference then won the 1977 election.
