Central Asia-China gas pipeline
Topic: World Transport and Communication · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 7 "Transport and Communication"
Meaning
The Central Asia-China gas pipeline carries natural gas from Turkmenistan to China. On the way it crosses Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It has been working since 2009. It gives China a land route for gas that does not depend on sea lanes. It also shows how pipelines link countries in a lasting, political way. Turkmenistan also sends gas by pipeline to Iran.
Example
Gas from fields in Turkmenistan, in Central Asia, flows east across Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It then enters western China and supplies Chinese cities and industries.
Don't confuse with
- TAPI pipeline: it also starts in Turkmenistan but is planned to run south through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India, and it is stalled. The Central Asia-China pipeline runs east to China and is already working.
