Green Energy Corridor
Topic: Energy Resources of India: Conventional and Non-conventional · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
The Green Energy Corridor is a programme begun in 2015 to build power lines for renewable electricity. Solar and wind power is mostly made in a few sunny or windy states, often far from big cities. The corridor carries this power into the national grid so that it can reach users across India. Without enough lines, clean power made in deserts and on coasts would go to waste. It is a key support for India's target of 500 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2030.
Example
The corridor links renewable power from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to the national grid. A separate line is planned to bring 13 GW of renewable power from Ladakh.
Don't confuse with
- One Sun One World One Grid (India, 2018): a proposal for grids that cross national borders and link solar power across time zones. The Green Energy Corridor stays within India.
- National Gas Grid: a network of pipelines that carries natural gas, not electricity.
