Link
Topic: World Transport and Communication · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 6 "Tertiary and Quaternary Activities"
Meaning
A link is any route that joins two nodes in a transport network. A node is a place where routes meet, or a town on a route. A link can be a road, a railway line, a waterway or an air route. Links are the lines of the network and nodes are its points. The more links a network has, the better its places are connected. Beyond NCERT, connectivity is measured by the beta index, which is the number of links divided by the number of nodes.
Example
The railway line between Delhi and Agra is a link, and the two cities are nodes. If a new road is built between them, the network gains another link and becomes better connected.
Don't confuse with
- Node: a node is a point, such as a junction or a town. A link is the route that runs between two nodes.
