Personal and mass communication
Topic: Transport and Communication in India · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 7 "Transport and Communication"
Meaning
Communication can be grouped by how many people a message reaches. Personal communication goes from one person to another, for example by letter, telephone, internet or email. Mass communication reaches very large numbers of people at once, for example through radio, television, newspapers, films and satellites. The internet is the most advanced personal system. People use it for email, online shopping (e-commerce) and payments. It works like a "central warehouse of data".
Example
A letter posted from Chennai to a relative in Kolkata is personal communication. A Doordarshan news bulletin watched in homes all over India is mass communication.
