Rampura Agucha mine

Geography glossary

Topic: Mineral Resources of India: Distribution and Conservation · NCERT: Beyond NCERT

Meaning

Rampura Agucha is a lead-zinc mine and one of the world's largest zinc mines. Hindustan Zinc runs it. It lies in the Aravalli region, where lead and zinc formed in veins, meaning cracks in old rocks that filled with minerals. Because of this mine and a few others, Rajasthan is almost India's only source of lead and zinc.

Example

Rampura Agucha is in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan. Rajasthan's other lead-zinc mines are Zawar, Sindesar Khurd and Rajpura-Dariba, and Hindustan Zinc runs all of them.

Don't confuse with

  • Khetri: this is in the Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, but it is a copper mine, not a lead-zinc mine.
