Also called: Firdausiyya · Topic: Bhakti and Sufi Traditions · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
The Firdausi order was a sufi silsila (order) active mainly in Bihar. Its roots go back to the Kubrawi line of Central Asia, though some textbooks describe it as a branch of the Suhrawardi order. Its saints taught through letters of spiritual guidance, called maktubat.
Example
Its best-known saint was Shaikh Sharafuddin Yahya Maneri of Bihar (d. 1381). His letters of guidance to disciples, collected as the Maktubat-i Sadi ("Hundred Letters"), are still read today.
Don't confuse with
- Ahmad Sirhindi (d. 1624): also known for maktubat, but he was a Naqshbandi from Punjab.
