Meaning
Matangini Hazra was an elderly woman freedom fighter from Tamluk, in Medinipur district of Bengal. People called her "Gandhi buri", meaning "old lady Gandhi", because she followed Gandhi so closely. In September 1942 (c. 29 September), Matangini Hazra, then in her seventies, led a march to take over the Tamluk police station. She kept holding the national flag after she was shot. Medinipur later set up its own "independent" parallel government.
