Meaning
Vasishthiputra Pulumavi was a Satavahana king in the 2nd century CE. He was the son and successor of Gautamiputra Satakarni. His name means "son of Vasishthi", because Satavahana kings were named after their mothers. He ruled from Pratishthana (Paithan). His coins and inscriptions are also found in Andhra, which shows that Satavahana power spread towards the east coast.
Example
The Nashik inscription of his grandmother, Gautami Balashri, is dated to his 19th year as king. The Greek geographer Ptolemy mentions a king "Siro Polemaios" at "Baithana" (Paithan). Historians usually take this to mean Pulumavi.
Don't confuse with
- Gautamiputra Satakarni: his father, the king praised in the Nashik prashasti as destroyer of the Shakas.
