Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals
Also called: LSDGs · Topic: Panchayati Raj: Rural Local Government · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs) means turning the global SDGs into goals a village can work on. The SDGs are grouped into nine themes for panchayats. Gram panchayats choose themes and build them into their development plans. This links village planning to national and global targets.
Example
The nine themes are:
- poverty-free village
- healthy village
- child-friendly village
- water-sufficient village
- clean and green village
- village with self-sufficient infrastructure
- socially just village
- village with good governance
- women-friendly village
A child-friendly panchayat, such as Sangkhu Radhu Khandu in Sikkim, works for safe schools and an end to child marriage.
Don't confuse with
- Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI): it measures how well gram panchayats are doing on these nine themes. LSDGs are the goals, and PAI is the scorecard.
