Natural products
Topic: Sectors of the Indian Economy · NCERT: Class 10, Ch 2 "Sectors of the Indian Economy"
Meaning
Natural products are goods that come mainly from natural processes such as rain, sunshine, animal biology or geology. They are the output of the primary sector, which produces goods by directly using natural resources. This sector is called "primary" because it forms the base for everything made later.
Example
Cotton grows with rain and sunshine. Milk depends on the animal's body and the fodder it eats. Iron ore and coal are formed by geology over millions of years. A farmer, a dairy farmer and a miner all produce natural products.
Don't confuse with
- Manufactured goods: these are made from natural products through a process of making. Milk is a natural product. Butter or cheese made from it in a dairy plant is a manufactured good.
