Inclusive method
Topic: Geographical Data: Sources, Compilation and Processing · NCERT: Class 12, Ch 1 "Data - Its Source and Compilation"
Meaning
The inclusive method is a way of setting class limits in which both the lower and the upper limit belong to the class. Classes are written as 20–29, 30–39 and so on. The next class therefore starts one unit above the upper limit of the previous one. Each class still covers ten values, and no value can fall on a shared boundary.
Example
If NCERT's 60 geography scores were grouped this way, a score of 29 would go into the 20–29 class and a score of 30 would go into the 30–39 class.
Don't confuse with
- Exclusive method: classes share boundary numbers (20–30, 30–40), and a boundary value such as 30 goes to the class where it is the lower limit.
