Tarabai
Topic: The Marathas · NCERT: Class 8, Ch 3 "The Marathas"
Meaning
Tarabai was Rajaram's queen. After he died in 1700, she led the Maratha state in her young son's name. Aurangzeb and his army were busy in the Deccan, which left north India poorly guarded. Tarabai sent Maratha armies into Mughal lands, so the Marathas moved from defending to attacking. She is seen as the architect, or main planner, of the Maratha push to the north.
Example
In the early 18th century, Tarabai sent large Maratha armies into Mughal territory, including the north. Her planning and her refusal to give up kept the Marathas free until Aurangzeb died in the Deccan in 1707 without defeating them.
