Project report
Also called: Statistical project · Topic: Economic Data: Census, NSS, Surveys and Statistical Tools · NCERT: Class 11, Ch 8 "Use of Statistical Tools"
Meaning
A project report is a statistical study done in fixed steps. The steps are: identify the problem → choose the target group → collect primary and/or secondary data → organise and present the data → analyse them (averages, dispersion, correlation) → conclude, with predictions and suggestions → add a bibliography (list of sources). It trains the student to use every statistical tool on one real question.
Example
In NCERT's toothpaste project, 100 households were surveyed, 67% of them urban. Average monthly family income was Rs 18,000, and average spending on toothpaste was Rs 104 per household per month. Pepsodent, Colgate and Close-up were the top brands, and television was the main media influence.
Don't confuse with
- Survey: a survey is only the data-collection step. A project report covers the whole cycle, from choosing the problem to drawing conclusions.
