Arunachal Frontier Highway
Topic: Transport and Communication in India · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
The Arunachal Frontier Highway is a planned road of about 1,800 km that runs close to the China border in Arunachal Pradesh. It is meant to make it easier to move troops and supplies to the border. It also aims to stop border villages from emptying out, because people leave places that have no roads, jobs or services.
Example
The highway is planned to run from Bomdila in western Arunachal Pradesh to Vijaynagar in the far east of the state, near the borders with China and Myanmar.
Don't confuse with
- Sela Tunnel: a single tunnel (opened March 2024) in West Kameng that gives all-weather access to Tawang. The Frontier Highway is a long road running along the whole border.
