Topic: Transport and Communication in India · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Sela Tunnel is a road tunnel at about 13,000 feet in Arunachal Pradesh. It opened in March 2024. It is twin-tube, which means there are two parallel tunnels, one main tube and one for escape or extra traffic. Heavy snow often closed the Sela Pass road above it in winter. The tunnel gives all-weather access to Tawang, which matters for both the army and the people who live there.
Example
The tunnel lies in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, on the road to Tawang near the China border.
