Bagor
Topic: Prehistory: Human Origins and Stone Age Cultures · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
Bagor is a Mesolithic site on a sand dune beside the Kothari river in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan. It is one of the largest Mesolithic sites in India. It has a huge number of microliths, which are tiny stone tools. It also gives early evidence of domesticated sheep and goats, which means these animals were kept and controlled by humans.
Example
In its earliest phase, possibly from c. 5000 BCE, the people of Bagor used microliths. They hunted wild animals and also kept sheep and goats. In later phases, pottery and a few copper objects appear. This shows a slow change from hunting towards herding and settled life.
Don't confuse with
- Adamgarh in Madhya Pradesh is another early domestication site. It is a group of rock shelters with paintings, not an open-air dune site.
