Polity & Governance glossary

Topic: Transparency, Accountability and e-Governance · NCERT: Beyond NCERT

Meaning

MyGov is a government platform for citizen participation, launched on 26 July 2014. On it, people discuss policies, give suggestions and take part in tasks and contests. It matters because it gives citizens a direct say in governance between elections. It is a form of participatory governance, where citizens help shape decisions and are not just told about them.

Example

When the government is drafting a policy or scheme, it can post the topic on MyGov and invite ideas from the public. Citizens then send in suggestions or join contests linked to it.

Don't confuse with

  • CPGRAMS: the portal where citizens file complaints against central ministries, which must reply within set time limits. MyGov is for ideas and discussion, not for solving grievances.
