PRAGATI

Polity & Governance glossary

Also called: Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation · Topic: Transparency, Accountability and e-Governance · NCERT: Beyond NCERT

Meaning

PRAGATI stands for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation. It is an ICT platform launched on 25 March 2015. ICT means information and communication technology. On PRAGATI, the Prime Minister reviews major projects, schemes and public grievances by video conference. Central secretaries and state chief secretaries join these reviews. It matters because review at the top level pushes officials to clear delays and to work together across the Centre and states.

Example

If a major project is stuck, the Prime Minister can raise it in a PRAGATI review with the central secretary and the state chief secretary concerned. Both can then be held to a timeline.

Don't confuse with

  • CPGRAMS: the portal where citizens themselves file complaints. PRAGATI is a top-level review meeting inside government, and it can take up issues that come from such grievances.
