Parbati-Kalisindh-Chambal-ERCP link
Topic: Drainage System of India: Rivers, Basins and Patterns · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
The Parbati–Kalisindh–Chambal–ERCP link is a river-linking project. It merges the Parbati–Kalisindh–Chambal link with Rajasthan's Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). The Parbati and Kalisindh are tributaries of the Chambal, which flows from Madhya Pradesh into Rajasthan. The aim is to store and move monsoon water from these rivers to supply water to the dry eastern part of Rajasthan. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh agreed to it in 2024. Because the rivers cross both states, their agreement was needed first. Progress is still underway (verify current).
Example
The project would use water from the Chambal basin, whose rivers rise in Madhya Pradesh. It would carry this water to districts of eastern Rajasthan for drinking and irrigation.
Don't confuse with
- Ken–Betwa link: the first river link under way, approved in 2021, in the Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It also uses Yamuna tributaries, but it is a separate project.
