Meaning

Inamgaon is a large Chalcolithic village of the Jorwe culture on the Ghod river near Pune, Maharashtra. Chalcolithic means people used copper along with stone. Diggers found many houses, an irrigation channel and a large house with a granary near the centre. This may have been a chief's house. Children were buried in urns (clay pots) under house floors. The site shows a farming society with leaders and some planning.

Example

At Inamgaon, a large house with a granary stood near the middle of the village, which points to a chief or leader. A channel was cut to carry river water to the fields.

Don't confuse with

  • Daimabad: another Jorwe-culture site in Maharashtra. It is famous for a hoard of bronze figures, including a chariot.
