Black Revolution
Topic: Rural Development: Diversification, Allied Sectors and Organic Farming · NCERT: Beyond NCERT
Meaning
The Black Revolution means a push to raise petroleum production. The push includes biofuels, which are fuels made from plant material, such as ethanol. Biofuels link energy to agriculture, because crops like sugarcane can be turned into fuel. This gives farmers another market and reduces the need to import oil. Like most colour labels, the term comes from journalists and textbooks, not from an official scheme name.
Example
Ethanol made from sugarcane is blended into petrol. This gives sugarcane farmers an extra buyer and reduces India's dependence on imported crude oil.
Don't confuse with
- Brown Revolution: this covers leather, cocoa and non-conventional energy. Black is about petroleum and fuels such as ethanol.
