Product-specialised industrial towns

Meaning

Product-specialised industrial towns are towns where most local industry makes one kind of product. Over the years, skilled workers, raw material suppliers, traders and small units gather in the same place. This helps every firm there. They share skills, suppliers and buyers, so costs go down. Geographers call these savings agglomeration economies (the savings firms get from being close to one another). These towns show agglomeration economies working on a small scale. They matter for local jobs and exports.
